When are we going to hold ourselves accountable for the same behavior we chastise our children for? At the dinner table, our family speaks of judging people by their actions, respecting the opinions of others and arguing one’s point with well-thought-out ideas, not pointless attacks on irrelevant perceived personality traits.

Shame on you for your front-page article (“Maine Republicans release recording of Democrat favoring Cutler,” Sept. 9) on the Maine Republican Party’s release of a “secret” recording in which Sen. Geoffrey Gratwick characterized U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud as “not a brain guy.”

It is an obscene example of how our politicians no longer have any interest in discussing issues. By publishing that article prominently on the front page of the Portland Press Herald, you demean your audience.

There is no newsworthy content to one person calling another person less intelligent – any sixth-grader can tell you that. Please don’t contribute to the insane pettiness of the political process and choose instead to focus on the important issues that actually matter.
