Let’s face it, Mainers for Fair Bear Hunting are neither for bear hunting nor are they Mainers.
By looking at the website of the Maine Ethics Commission, you can see that virtually none of their funding comes from Maine and they are not for any kind of hunting. Their mission is to end all hunting, period.
Some of their advocates say it is all about money. Tell me what is wrong with that. Bears are an abundant natural resource, not unlike lobsters, blueberries or timber, and many Mainers in the most economically challenged parts of the state depend on the bear season to help them make a living. Why would anyone want to bring more economic strife on these people?
Our Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife already struggles to make ends meet. Ending bear hunting in Maine will only serve to bring more economic problems to state government and the struggling people of our rural communities.
