Charles L. Updegraph apparently does not know what a columnist is as compared to a reporter (“Letter to the editor: Columnist Nemitz should be moved to opinion pages,” Sept. 27).

So, for the folks who seem always to disagree with Bill Nemitz, a point of edification: Mr. Nemitz is paid to write his opinions. That he backs his opinions with facts does not make him a reporter, which is a person who is paid to merely report facts and never to offer analysis nor opinions.

As to Mr. Nemitz’s placement in the paper, it is not at all unusual for a regular columnist for a given paper to appear in the same space, not necessarily on the op-ed pages, because most people do understand the difference between a columnist and a reporter.

The only media outlet where we routinely see those definitions blurred is Fox News, so perhaps that outlet has caused this point of confusion for those who view it.
