I am a Democrat, and in 2010, when I saw that the weak Democratic candidate for governor was running a distant third, I voted for Eliot Cutler. He would have been far preferable to Paul LePage.

Many others felt the same way, but not enough and not soon enough to thwart Mr. LePage’s election with 39 percent of the vote.

Now, in 2014, the Democrats have a strong and highly qualified candidate in Mike Michaud. It is Mr. Cutler’s turn to run a distant third.

Now is the time for supporters of Mr. Cutler to recognize that he cannot win. I urge them to please look at the facts, and look at the damage that another four years of the same ideological governance could do to our state.

Please vote for Mike Michaud to ensure that Maine once again can be proud of our governor.
