It appears we are going to be very fortunate with the weather this weekend. Friday will be dry along with sunshine and readings in the upper 50s to around that 60F mark.

Columbus weekend is a big leaf-peeping weekend and many tourists will be streaming into Maine beginning early Friday afternoon. There is going to be a weather system to our south this weekend bringing clouds and even rain as close as parts of southern New England. Current forecast models keep this storm far enough away from Maine to have no impact on our weekend weather.

Saturday through Monday should feature dry and seasonable weather with highs around 60F at the coast and typically cooler in the mountains. That weather system may bring a few morning clouds to southern York County early Saturday and again late Monday, but presently that appears to be the only impact we would see.

With the sun’s angle getting lower in the sky the morning and afternoon light will be ideal for taking pictures of the foliage. The one issue we have is that the foliage has changed a bit early and today’s heavy rain and wind will bring down some of the leaves. Winds will also be brisk on Thursday adding to the leaf drop.

I’ll update the forecast for the weekend here and on Twitter. Please follow me there. If there are changes to that weather system and it decides to move further north, I’ll let you know, but for now our holiday weekend looks great.
