Wet slushy snow started to fall in southern Maine just as the morning commute was getting underway Monday, creating slippery conditions that may have been the cause of a vehicle rollover in Brunswick.

Brunswick police say the rollover took place on River Road just before 8:30 a.m. and an occupant of the vehicle was transported to Maine Medical Center. The nature and extent of the victim’s injuries was not known. Authorities in York and Cumberland counties as well as Maine State Police said there were other instances of motorists losing control and sliding off roads, though no other injuries were reported.

Police urged motorists to drive carefully and be mindful of the conditions.

The National Weather Service in Gray said light snow and sleet would become rain as the morning progressed, with some low-lying areas staying colder and potentially causing a thin layer of ice on exposed surfaces like roadways.
