BANGOR — Morgan Cahill hit a tiebreaking jumper with 1:52 left in the second overtime Thursday and St. Joseph’s went on to an 82-78 victory against Husson in a nonconference women’s basketball game.

Cahill’s shot broke a 76-76 tie and sparked a 6-0 run by the Monks (3-0).

St. Joseph’s had taken a 60-58 lead with 29 seconds left in regulation on a tip-in by Norma Waggett, but Husson (0-2) tied it eight seconds later on a layup by Chandler Guerrette.

Cahill finished with a game-high 30 points for the Monks and also pulled down 12 rebounds.

St. Joseph’s also got 15 points and 10 rebounds from Emily Kehoe, and 10 points and 14 boards from Waggett.

Katy Brochu led Husson with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

BATES 97, UM-FARMINGTON 61: Chelsea Nason scored a game-high 17 points, including four 3-pointers, in 19 minutes to pace a balanced offense for the Bobcats (3-1) against the Beavers (0-3) at Lewiston.

Molly Brown and Bernadette Connors were the other players to finish in double figures for Bates with 14 points apiece.

(2) SOUTH CAROLINA 99, CLEMSON 41: Freshman A’ja Wilson scored 18 points to lead South Carolina (2-0) over Clemson (2-1) at Columbia, South Carolina.

(7) DUKE 82, OLD DOMINION 66: Ka’Lia Johnson had 18 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds, leading Duke (2-0) against Old Dominion (2-1) at Norfolk, Virginia.

(12) LOUISVILLE 95, BELMONT 35: Freshman Mariya Moore scored 17 points, her average through her first three college games, and led five players in double-figure scoring for Louisville (3-0) against visiting Belmont (0-3).

MISSISSIPPI STATE 74, (17) WEST VIRGINIA 61: Freshman Victoria Vivians scored 26 points and sophomore Ketara Chapel had 19 with 11 rebounds, all career highs, as Mississippi State (3-0) upended West Virginia (2-1) in the semifinals of the Preseason NIT at Starkville, Mississippi.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

HUSSON 68, ST. JOSEPH’S 66: Trevon Butler scored 19 points, including Husson’s final points, as the Eagles won at Bangor.

Butler hit a jump shot with 1:19 left for a 68-63 lead. After Jordan Tripp of St. Joseph’s made 1 of 2 free throws with 57 seconds left, Steve Simonds, who finished with a game-high 26 points, followed with a jumper to pull the Monks within two with 31 seconds remaining. But Simonds missed on a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Quin Richardson-Newton finished with 11 points for the Monks.

(10) TEXAS 71, IOWA 57: Jonathan Holmes scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, Isaiah Taylor added 15 and Texas (3-0)beat Iowa (2-1) in the 2K Classic at New York.

(15) VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH 106, MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE 66: Terry Larrier scored 21 points and Virginia Commonwealth (3-0) made quick work of Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-3), taking a 61-30 halftime lead at Richmond, Virginia.

(17) CONNECTICUT 65, COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON 57: Ryan Boatright had 19 points, Daniel Hamilton added 15, and Connecticut (2-0) held off College of Charleston (1-2) in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at San Juan.

INDIANA 74, (22) SOUTHERN METHODIST 68: James Blackmon Jr. scored 26 points and Indiana (3-0) used a big run in the second half to get past SMU (1-2) at Bloomington, Indiana.

(24) MICHIGAN 71, DETROIT 62: Caris LeVert had 21 points and nine rebounds, and Michigan (3-0) scored 11 straight points late in the second half to hold off upset-minded Detroit (1-2) at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

(12) KANSAS STATE 26, WEST VIRGINIA 20: Jake Waters threw for a career-high 400 yards and a touchdown, Tyler Lockett returned a punt for a score and Kansas State (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) beat sloppy West Virginia (6-5, 4-4) at Morgantown, West Virginia.

NORTH CAROLINA 45, (25) DUKE 20: Marquise Williams threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more, and North Carolina (6-5, 4-3 Atlantic Coast)beat Duke (8-3, 4-3) at Durham, North Carolina.
