BIDDEFORD — Sister Thérèse Pelletier, formerly known as Sister St. Thérèse-du-Précieux-Sang, died at St. Joseph Convent on Dec. 10, 2014, at the age of 88.

Sister Thérèse was born in Methuen, Massa-chusetts on April 21, 1926, to Francis Xavier Pelletier and Eva Ouellette Pelletier. Sister was the seventh child in a family of 11 children.

She received her elementary education at St. John the Baptist School (known as St. Theresa School) in Methuen, Massachusetts. She was a graduate of St. Theresa High School, also in Methuen.

On Aug. 25, 1946, Sister Thérèse entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in Biddeford.

She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph College in North Windham. She also studied at St. Francis College in Biddeford.

She taught in the elementary grades in Methuen, Massachusetts, and in Biddeford, Van Buren and Lille. She taught religious education classes in Old Town.

She was a member of the Social Justice and Peace Commission at St. Joseph Parish in Old Town and later at St. John the Evangelist Parish in South Portland. She also ministered to the sick and home-bound in these two parishes.

In 1972, Sister trained in Clinical Pastoral Education at Andover Newton Theological School, and she also studied Pastoral Care Ministry in the Augusta/Gardiner hospitals and nursing homes under the sponsorship of the Catholic Diocese of Portland. Sister worked as archivist at the Portland Diocesan Chancery from 1991 to 2008, and also served as regional auditor for annulment cases.

Sister is survived by: two sisters, Mary Gaudette of Methuen, Massachusetts and Sr. Claire Pelletier, SCIM, of St. Joseph Convent in Biddeford.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014 and 9-10:45 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at the Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
