Majority rule with minority rights is a basic tenet of our system of governance. This is reflected in the support of the framers of the Constitution for a Bill of Rights.

There is a balance here that is essential to a well-run civilization. I believe that we are experiencing a loss of that balance.

We seem to be unable to see radical Islam as the enemy of civilized society that it is. We have recently seen more than enough evidence of radical Islam’s brutality and disregard for basic human rights.

I recently read of the beheading of a baby, reminiscent of the Rape of Nanking. When you think that you have seen the worst of it, another day dawns and another, more brutal atrocity fills the news.

Civilized society needs to acknowledge radical Islam as its enemy, join together and act accordingly, with conviction. There is evil in this world, and it is the duty of civilized people to defend themselves and destroy that evil.

Radical Islam is no less wicked than the Axis powers of the mid-20th century. If the civilized world is to continue, then radical Islam must be crushed. Will society emulate Neville Chamberlain or Winston Churchill?
