Gorham reps named to committee positions

Gorham Democratice state Rep. Andrew McLean has been appointed House chairman of the Transportation Committee, according to a press release from the House Democratic Majority Office. He previously served as a member of the committee, which oversees policy relating to the Department of Transportation, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Maine Turnpike Authority, as well as aviation, highway and bridge infrastructure and railroads.

“We have a lot of work to do to bring our transportation system into the 21st century, and I look forward to taking on this new role as we continue to work on policies that strengthen our infrastructure and support our economy,” McLean said in the press release.

Rep. Linda Sanborn, also a Gorham Democrat, will continue her role on the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, which is charged with budget writing and oversight.

“I’m thrilled to continue working on the Appropriations Committee,” Sanborn said in a statement. “Drafting and passing a smart and balanced budget is the primary responsibility of all legislators. Having such a close role in this process is always humbling.”

McLean is serving his second term in the Maine House and Sanborn is in her fourth term. Both represent parts of Gorham.
