Residents of Maine’s largest city can now use smartphones to request public services.

Portland is unveiling its new “Fix It! Portland” mobile application that allows residents to report issues such as potholes and streetlight outages. A city spokeswoman says the requests are submitted direct to city officials and are then assigned based on location and the nature of the problem.

Mayor Michael Brennan calls the application a great example of how a responsive city can utilize technology to simplify processes and empower its residents.

Residents who don’t have smartphones can also register requests via the city’s website.
