Carla Jeanne (Joy) Sanders, age 64, passed away suddenly on Jan. 10, 2015, in New Johnsonville, Tenn. Carla and her husband, Tommy Dale Sanders, of Marshal, Ark., had just retired, moved from living in Maine to their beautiful new home in Tennessee.

Carla was born on Sept. 16, 1950, in East Machias, Maine. She spent the majority of her life in Topsham/ Brunswick, Maine. Her 25-year career was employed onboard Naval Air Station Brunswick Maine. She served the Naval community in the field of Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene and Facility Management. She received numerous awards for her performance and work ethic; Brunswick and Portsmouth Branch medical Clinic Civilian of the year (1993), Navy Meritorious Civilian Service award (1993 and ’95), Public Works Special Recognition award (1997), NASB Civilian of the Year (1993 and 1998), and many more.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Ronald Rushton of Michigan and Belinda Jeanne Kennedy of Topsham, Maine. Also, her parents Carole and Paul Melton of Tennessee, two sisters, Cathy Bachigalupo and Lynn Rodrigues, both of California. Two nephews Brandon Joy of Maine and Anthony Bachigalupo of California. And her beloved grandchildren: Aiden, Collin, Markis, Sabrina, Emalee, Tristan and Riley. She was predeceased by her brother Christopher Stephen Joy of Brunswick Maine.

Carla was a life force in every way. She lived her life with passion, loving selflessly, making sure everyone else was full. A humble woman, success for her was about generosity and kindness for others. Fiercely devoted to caring for her family and friends. Her loving spirit will be missed by all that knew her. And her laugh … oh that laugh.

A celebration of her life will be held in Maine this spring. Time and location to be determined.
