CHURCH HILL, MD — Levi Calbert Gilliam, of Church Hill, MD, died on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. He was 78.

Born on March 17, 1936, in Bath, Maine, he was the son of the late Hollis and Flora Gilliam. He was a lobsterman for many years, fishing in South Harpswell, ME.

On Aug. 26, 1978, he married Marcia Minyo Gilliam. They started a family, living in Harpswell, ME, until moving to the Eastern Shore in 1995.

Levi loved hunting and fishing with his friends. He also loved to carve decoys and build Lego towers with his grandson, Max. Levi was a man who loved the outdoors, being on the ocean, in the woods, kayaking, picking up rocks and just enjoying nature.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Bethany Piccone of Pennsylvania, Linda Dube of Florida, Glenda Butler of South Carolina, two sons, Wayne White of Maine and John Gilliam of Maine; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial celebration and remembrance of Levi’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Merricaneag Grange #425, 529 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell, ME 04079 and on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Elks Lodge #1622, 502 Dutchman’s Lane, Easton, MD 21601.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Levi Gilliam Scholarship Fund at Chesapeake Bank and Trust, 245 High St., Chestertown, MD 21620.
