A Windham man was arrested at Bray’s Brew Pub on Route 302 in Naples early Saturday morning after driving drunk and assaulting a Cumberland County sheriff’s deputy.

According to Lt. Donald Foss, deputies responded at about 12:15 a.m. to the pub for a report of a man smashing his Jeep into other vehicles in the parking lot. The investigation determined that Grimes was heavily intoxicated and had struck two vehicles while he was trying to leave in his own vehicle. The vehicles struck by Grimes sustained minor damage. Grimes was operating a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, which also sustained minor damage.

Grimes was taken into custody and while being placed into a cruiser, he kicked the arresting deputy several times in the chest. The deputy was uninjured.

Grimes, 39, of 299 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, was charged with class D operating under the influence and class C assault on a law enforcement officer. He was transported to Cumberland County Jail where bail is set at $560 cash. He is set to appear in Bridgton District Court March 17.
