Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on Pequawket Trail (Route 113) in Standish at about 10:45 p.m. Friday involving a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver.

Jason Merrifield, 28, of Standish, was traveling west in the vicinity of 450 Pequawket Trail on a delivery route when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway. Merrifield skidded off the road, striking a CMP utility pole and severing it in half. Merrifield was operating a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, which sustained significant front-end damage, according to Lt. Donald Foss.

Merrifield was transported to Maine Medical Center by Standish Fire/Rescue with head and facial injuries. Merrifield was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but his airbags did deploy, Foss said.

Preliminary investigation has determined that Merrifield was operating his vehicle at a speed greater than road conditions warranted, Foss said.

CMP was called to the scene to replace the pole. Route 113 was reduced to one lane of traffic for nearly four hours while the pole was replaced.
