A Sanford mobile home was destroyed by fire Tuesday.

Sanford Fire Lt. Eric Neubert said the mobile home was engulfed in smoke when firefighters arrived after the blaze was reported by a neighbor of 11 Branch Road around 11:30 a.m.

Neubert said the fire was under control in about an hour, although most of the fire trucks didn’t leave the scene until shortly after 2 p.m. Neubert said the mobile home had a wood-frame roof and addition, and because of that, firefighters had to take more time to go through the rubble to find and extinguish hot spots.

No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is under investigation, Neubert said.

No one was injured, Neubert said.

Firefighters from Alfred, North Berwick, Lebanon and Wells helped put out the fire, Neubert said, and crews from Alfred, Kennebunk, Acton and Wells helped cover Sanford fire stations.
