SOUTH PORTLAND — The South Portland High School ecology program recently received ecomaine’s eco-Excellence Award for efforts to initiate and maintain a recycling and composting service at the high school.
The program helps to divert nearly nine tons of waste each year from the school’s solid waste stream, according to a press release from ecomaine, which provides waste disposal and recycling services for more than 50 communities in southwestern Maine and New Hampshire.
