Former Nokomis High basketball standout Chris Braley won’t return to Stony Brook University next season.

Braley confirmed Wednesday night that he’s transferring and said he isn’t sure where he will continue his college basketball career. A number of factors went into his decision, Braley said.

“It’s about being happy and successful on all three levels: academics, athletics and socially,” Braley said in an email.

Braley said Stony Brook granted him a release from his scholarship. If Braley goes to a Division II or III school, he can play immediately; if he transfers to another Division I school, he must sit out a year.

A sophomore, Braley played in 23 games for Stony Brook this past season, averaging 1.5 points and two rebounds per game. The Seawolves went 23-12.
