STANDISH — Laura Jordan and Theresa Hendrix combined on a six-hitter in the first game, and Jennifer Murphy drove home five runs in the second game as St. Joseph’s College swept a softball doubleheader Friday against Norwich, 1-0 and 7-1.

Jordan pitched six innings in the opener and Hendrix recorded the save. Victoria Ramos scored the game’s only run on a passed ball in the third inning after leading off with a single.

The Monks (12-4, 4-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference) jumped out to an early lead in Game 2 on a two-run single by Murphy. Murphy also doubled home two runs in the sixth and had an RBI single in the seventh.

Hendrix went 3 for 3 with three runs scored in the second game. Erica Boulanger was the winning pitcher.

Norwich fell to 3-11 overall, 1-5 in the conference.

UNE SWEEPS NICHOLS: Adrienne Chase had three hits and four RBI, and Katelyn Austin threw a three-hitter for the Nor’easters (11-8, 5-1 Commonwealth Coast) as they completed a sweep of the Bison (4-8, 0-2) with an 8-0 win in five innings at Biddeford.

Amanda Vallante, Kelly Murphy and Cat Ouellette added two hits apiece. Vallante scored a pair of runs.

In the opener, Chase drove in three runs and UNE used a six-run sixth to close out a 13-4 victory in six innings.

Paige Moore-Haskell and Meghan Bolano each had three hits for the Nor’easters.

BOWDOIN 5, BATES 1: Julia Geaumont threw a two-hitter as the Polar Bears (12-6) defeated the Bobcats (1-8) in a NESCAC East opener at Lewiston.

Geaumont surrendered her only run when Kira Shaikh scored on a grounder by Victoria Fitzgerald in the bottom of the second.

Marisa O’Toole doubled home Cielle Collins in the fifth and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Adriane Krul hit a solo home run and Katie Gately and O’Toole each added an RBI single in the sixth inning.

COLBY, TRINITY SPLIT: Erica Pulford and Meaghan Lewia led off the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back homers and Skylar Labbe added a two-run homer in the fifth to lead Colby (5-8, 1-1 NESCAC East) to a 10-4 win over Trinity (4-10, 1-1) in the second game of a doubleheader at Hartford.

Labbe finished with three hits, two RBI and two runs scored, and Grace Farnkoff had a pair of hits and drove in three runs. Colby also got two hits from Robin Spofford.

Colby lost the opener, 7-5, despite home runs from Lewia, Labbe and Katie McLaughlin and four hits from Emily Schatz.

BASEBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS RIVIER: Taylor Reuillard went 4 for 4 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases as the Monks (10-10, 4-0 GNAC) beat Rivier 6-5 in Game 2 at Standish after posting an 8-1 victory in the opener.

St. Joseph’s, designated as the road team because the games were originally schedule to be played at Rivier (4-10, 0-2), broke a 5-5 tie in the opener when Dan Donovan singled home Scott Betts in the top of the seventh.

Corey McNamara picked up the victory with 11/3 of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.

Steven Albert pitched six shutout innings in Game 2. The Monks scored two runs in the fifth and added six in the sixth.

TRINITY 5, COLBY 4: Daniel Pidgeon hit a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Bantams (9-5) over the Mules (9-4) in a NESCAC East opener at Hartford.

Colby took a 4-2 lead in the top of the eighth on a three-run, inside-the-park homer by Daniel Csaplar.

Ryder Arsenault had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Mules. Colby starter Scott Goldberg gave up two runs on nine hits in 61/3 innings.
