THE VAUGHAN HOMESTEAD SCULPTURE GARDEN, ready to display sculptures.

HALLOWELL

The Harlow Gallery and The Vaughan Homestead invite Maine artists to submit work for an exhibition of sculpture taking place on the grounds of The Vaughan Homestead at 2 Litchfield Road in Hallowell. The gallery and homestead are seeking submissions of outdoor sculptural work from monumental to ephemeral.

The show will take place July 3 through August 29, with the opening date coinciding with that of the Harlow Gallery’s annual Summer Members’ Art Show and Sale from 5-8 p.m. Friday,

July 3. The exhibition will also be on view for Hallowell’s annual celebration, Old Hallowell Day on July 19.

Email submissions are being accepted through Friday, May 15. Artists are encouraged to contact the Vaughan Homestead to arrange a site visit. Submissions will be reviewed by a curatorial committee. Sales proceeds for sculptures sold will support two cultural cornerstones in Hallowell — the Vaughan Homestead Foundation and the Harlow Gallery.

Artists should be residents of Maine at least part of the year or otherwise have a strong connection to the state. Artists submitting from out of state are responsible for transporting work to and from the Vaughan Homestead should their work be selected for inclusion in the exhibition. All sculptural media and sizes welcome, but the work must be able to withstand the elements for the duration of the show.

The grounds of the Vaughan Homestead are not gated or locked, though they are closed to the public when a program or event is not in session. The Vaughan Homestead Foundation cannot guarantee the security of the exhibited sculptures and will not be held responsible for stolen or damaged art work. Insurance is not provided. All artists must agree to these terms prior to exhibiting their work on the property.
