Now that Dr. Ben Carson has announced his bid for president, his supporters should take a victory lap. They have engineered the only successful conservative grassroots presidential draft since the draft Goldwater effort in 1964.

Dr. Carson is a straight-talking, brilliant brain surgeon of high character who loves this country and is willing to do what is necessary to save it.

Many Republicans fail to recognize that the Reagan coalition is no longer able to win a national election. In order to defeat the Democrats, we have to stay true to conservative principles while broadening the base of the Republican Party. Several candidates can do one or the other, but only Dr. Carson can do both.

Dr. Carson is courageous. He stood up to President Obama on national television.

Dr. Carson remains principled on important conservative issues.
