AUBURN, Maine — Former Auburn City Councilor Joshua Shea has pleaded guilty to charges that he downloaded pornographic images of children under the age of 12 and convinced a 14-year-old California girl to perform sex acts on live video.

The Sun Journal reports that in exchange for his guilty plea to three charges, prosecutors agreed to drop nine charges against the 39-year-old Shea, who also once published a local magazine and organized a community film festival.

Shea agreed to a 10-year prison term, provided all or a portion of that time is suspended. He also agreed to serve two years’ probation.

Shea was indicted in November on 12 child pornography charges, eight months after he was arrested at his home and charged with a single count of possession of child pornography.
