A fire caused by a malfunctioning portable heater partially damaged a small garage in Portland’s West End neighborhood late Saturday morning.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames once they were able to open the garage’s roll-up door, said Deputy Fire Chief Robert Thompson. He said firefighters used a hoist to open the door.

The garage, located at 14 Orchard St., had been used for storage and did not contain a motor vehicle. The fire occurred around 11:30 a.m. No one was injured.
