Portland police say a man in his 50s was transported to Maine Medical Center Sunday evening after he was injured during what authorities are describing as a domestic violence incident.

Sgt. Jake Titcomb said the man suffered a serious injury, but said he is expected to survive. Titcomb declined to release the victim’s name or to describe the nature of his injury.

Titcomb said police officers were called around 6:20 p.m. to the intersection of Forest Avenue and Harris Avenue in Portland’s Riverton neighborhood for a report of domestic violence. Titcomb said the incident involved a motor vehicle, but he declined to elaborate.

A second man and a woman were involved and are being questioned by police, but no one had been arrested as of Sunday evening. Titcomb said the case is being investigated by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division, with more details expected to be released Monday.

The victim is being treated in the hospital’s critical care unit.
