Students at Maine’s community colleges will have an easier time entering the state’s university system under a new credit transfer agreement to be signed next week.

Officials from the two public college systems and Gov. Paul LePage will be at the signing ceremony Monday at 10 a.m. at the Randall Center at the University of Maine at Augusta. Under the agreement, students can seamlessly transfer 35 units of general education courses.

The agreement is important because students have complained that credits earned at the community colleges did not easily transfer to the state’s four-year universities, which could cost students time and money if they had to take additional courses to fulfill requirements.
