Maine’s highest court is upholding a judgment against a former court employee who was convicted of theft and tampering with public records.

A judge found Danielle Beckwith guilty last year. She worked as a supervisor at a transcript production office at Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor when she was accused of attempted theft by deception. Prosecutors accused her of issuing a refund of almost $3,000 in the name of her daughter.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court issued a decision on Tuesday upholding the decision. The high court says Beckwith’s conduct “falls squarely within” the definition of the crime of tampering with public records and the court was right to find her guilty.

Beckwith appealed that her conduct didn’t constitute a violation and the evidence against her was insufficient.
