An injury has forced Eric Mitchell out of Saturday night’s middleweight boxing match against Russell Lamour Jr. at the Portland Expo.

Instead, Lamour (11-1) will fight Derrick Findley (21-15-1) of Gary, Indiana, in a scheduled eight-round match that will headline Saturday’s card. Lamour, of Portland, has an eight-inch height advantage over the 5-foot-6 Findley.

The card begins at 7:30 p.m. and features two amateur and six professsional bouts.

FOOTBALL

NFL: The New England Patriots signed their first-round draft pick, defensive lineman Malcom Brown from Texas. The team did not announce terms of the deal.

 The Patriots also released tight end Fred Davis, a second-round pick in 2008 who spent his first six seasons with Washington.

BASEBALL

NECBL: Shane Hughes’ home run in the bottom of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie, and the host Sanford Mainers (6-5) added five more in the eighth for an 8-2 victory over the Vermont Mountaineers (5-5).

David Shanz singled home two in the eighth, and Hughes added an RBI single.

TWILIGHT LEAGUE: Phil LeVangie, Ryan Riordan and Shyler Scates combined on a one-hitter and Forrest Chadwick drove in three runs to lead Lenders Network (5-1) in a 7-2 win over Patriot Insurance (1-5) at South Portland.

Connor Dietrich singled home the tying run, then scored on Owen Kimmel’s two-out infield hit as Aero Heating (5-1) scored twice in the eighth to rally to a 5-4 win over Edge Academy (1-5) at Portland.

NASCAR TRUCKS: Erik Jones won the race in Iowa, turning his fifth pole in 26 trucks starts into his first win of the season and the fifth of his career. He led 112 of 200 laps.

Austin Theriault of Fort Kent finished 12th.

TENNIS

GERRY WEBER OPEN: Ivo Karlovic served an ATP record 45 aces in beating third-seeded Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-7 (8), 6-3 to reach the semifinals at Halle, Germany.

Karlovic will next play Roger Federer, who won 6-0, 7-6 (1) against Germany’s Florian Mayer. Second-seeded Kei Nishikori and Andreas Seppi also advanced.

AEGON CHAMPIONSHIPS: Top-seeded Andy Murray stayed on course for a fourth title at Queen’s Club in London by overcoming Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 to reach the semifinals.

Murray next faces Serbia’s Viktor Troicki, who beat American John Isner 7-6 (5), 6-3. Gilles Simon eliminated third-seeded Milos Raonic of Canada 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. South Africa’s Kevin Anderson also advanced.

AEGON CLASSIC: Krisytina Mladenovic of France scored her third upset of the week, beating top-seeded Simona Halep 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4) in a back-and-forth quarterfinal match at Birmingham, England.

Mladenovic will next play sixth-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, who beat third-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-2, 6-2.

The other semi-final will be between Germans Sabine Lisicki and Angelique Kerber.

SOCCER

MLS: Seattle forward Clint Dempsey was suspended for three games by the league and fined for his conduct toward an official during a U.S. Open Cup match this week.

Dempsey grabbed a notebook from a referee and tore it after a teammate was given a red card.
