FREEPORT — Independence Day events start early in the day and end after dark.

This year’s Fourth of July celebration will begin at 7 a.m. with a blueberry pancake and sausage breakfast at St. Jude Hall at the corner of Main and School streets. It is scheduled to go until 10 a.m., when the town’s parade will start.

Participants will be lining up at Freeport Middle School at 9 a.m. for the parade along Main Street, from Kendall Lane to Holbrook Street.

L.L. Bean will also be holding events throughout the day, including two road races with entry fees that benefit the YMCA of Southern Maine Casco Bay Branch. The first one, which begins at 7:30 a.m., is a 10K road race that starts at the top of Bow Street. The awards ceremony will be held in Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a one-mile “fun run” for families at 9:15 a.m.

At 7:30 p.m., L.L. Bean will host a free outdoor concert at Discovery Park, featuring The Mavericks, followed by fireworks at 9:10 p.m.
