CAPE ELIZABETH — The Spurwink Rod and Gun Club’s license application is going to a public hearing.
The Town Council on Monday scheduled the hearing for Sept. 14. The Firing Range Committee on June 8 recommended the license be approved by the council.
The town is still waiting to receive a safety report for the shooting range. A safety evaluator was at the club this week and Sgt. Paul Fenton said a report should be available by the end of the week. Councilors said they want the evaluator to present his findings to them before the public hearing.
Also on Monday, councilors sent a proposed special events ordinance with rules governing how residential properties may be used as for-profit event venues to their ordinance committee. It was recommended to the council by the Planning Board June 16.
The ordinance, which must be approved by the council, would regulate the rental of residential property for private events and parties. The use of residential properties as businesses for fee-paying functions is currently not allowed.
