A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth that may have been caused by a medical problem delayed traffic for nearly an hour Thursday evening.

State Trooper Mike Lane said a 34-year-old woman, whose name was unavailable, went airborne and rolled over near Exit 17 in Yarmouth.

Her 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer landed in a grassy area and was destroyed. The woman was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Lane said the driver may have had a medical problem before the crash.

“I heard a big squealing,” said one motorist, Betty Roy of Lewiston. “I saw this big plume of sand and then I saw smoke.”

Lane said the crash, which was reported at 6:30 p.m., caused traffic delays.
