Re: “Tear-jerker for movie buffs: Portland’s rental mecca Videoport to close in August” (July 15):
I work in Portland, I live in the city, I walk and ride my bike to work, and for the past 23 years, I and my family have rented from Videoport.
Among the five of us, we visit the basement establishment at least twice a week. The staff have gotten to know our tastes.
With their breadth of knowledge, they recommend thrillers, movies and documentaries we have never heard of or would have known about.
Videoport’s closing is a sad commentary on local businesses and a tremendous loss to the city of Portland.
