ORONO — University of Maine softball coach Lynn Coutts was named senior associate director of athletics on Friday. Her husband, Mike, will replace her as softball coach.

Coutts, a former Black Bear star player, was named softball coach in 2010. In her new role, she will oversee compliance, Title IX, financial aid, student-athlete conduct, sports medicine, sports performance and equipment. She will serve as the liaison to academic support, the NCAA-designated senior woman administrator and a sport program administrator.

She replaces Eileen Flaherty, who resigned last week to take a high school athletics director position in her native Massachusetts.

Mike Coutts joined the softball program as an assistant in 2012 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2014. A former Black Bear baseball player and assistant baseball coach, Coutts earned his undergraduate degree in 1982 and then a masters degree from UMaine in education/administration in 1989.
