Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King say $2 million is going to be used to restrict development of nearly 10,000 acres around the military Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape school in western Maine.

They say the funding will support military readiness through conservation efforts around the school that provides pilots and other select military personnel the opportunity to master the skills necessary for survival in harsh environmental conditions as well as enemy captivity.

Under the arrangement, the Trust for Public Lands is getting $2 million from the Department of Defense’s Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration.
