CHEBEAGUE ISLAND — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin a study this fall of whether a navigation improvement project should take place on Chebeague Island.
The study will begin in October and will determine whether the project, which would be implemented at the island’s stone wharf landing, should move forward. An initial study in July 2014 indicated the project would be feasible.
Last year’s study showed that water is shallow at the pier where the ferry and other boats docks, which has caused damage to some boats. The project would involve deepening the channel to provide safer access.
An Army Corps representative couldn’t be reached to find out how long the study will take.
