It’s time for Saco City Hall to refocus priorities to: helping seniors struggling to stay in their homes; attracting affordable housing for families relocating; and promoting local businesses trying to keep their doors open. Creative and innovative thinking are needed to turn priorities into sustainable growth solutions.

For a community to grow and prosper, several building blocks must be in place including: infrastructure – not only good roads and traffic patterns, but also communications and energy backbones; great schools – the status quo cannot be the only option, and a new Young School is overdue; and diverse revenue stream – a tax base that is insensitive to state cuts or economic downfall and protects fixed incomes.

My name is Alan Minthorn, and I’m running to represent Ward 5 on the Saco City Council.

I bring classroom experience, including union leadership as chief contract negotiator; high-tech sales and system engineering; and 22 years as an insurance agent. I served two terms as president of my local Rotary Club.

I own a small health insurance agency, Maine Senior Insurance, LLC, specializing in Medicare health insurance for seniors, and I’m a member of the Maine Council on Aging and the Biddeford-Saco Chamber of Commerce.

I want to work for Saco’s future and commit my time and energy to that success. As your Saco city councilor I will be available for you, listen to you and actively represent you. Ward 5, I ask for your vote on Election Day, Nov. 3!
