NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — When the game reached the 14th inning, the Portland Sea Dogs ran out of pitchers, so infielder Oscar Tejeda was sent to the mound.

Tejeda escaped one jam, but the New Britain Rock Cats finally finished it in the 15th. Jordan Patterson hit a two-run homer for a 7-5 walk-off win over Portland on Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium.

Portland is now 49-85, New Britain 62-70.

Sea Dogs first baseman Sam Travis knocked in three runs, including a two-run home run in the sixth innings. Keury De la Cruz also homered for the Sea Dogs. Right fielder Aneury Tavarez threw out two runners at home.

The Sea Dogs led 1-0 on Tavarez’s RBI single in the second.

New Britain scored three runs off of Portland starter Danny Rosenbaum over five innings, including a two-run double by Colorado Rockies’ first baseman Justin Morneau, who is rehabbing with the Rock Cats.

Travis’s blast, his fourth with the Sea Dogs, tied the game.

Jordan Weems led off the seventh with a triple down the right-field line. He was almost stranded, until Travis singled him in with two outs, for a 4-3 lead.

New Britain tied it on Tyler Massey’s RBI single off Williams Jerez. Massey then tried to score from second base on a single to right, but Tavarez threw him out.

The Rock Cats put a runner at third base with one out in the 10th inning. But Tyler Massey popped out to shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin. Then Lin mad a great play charging a slow grounder and throwing out speedy Noel Cuevas.

That play moved the game to the 11th, when De La Cruz homered to right field.

But in the bottom of the 11th, Pat Valaika led off with a double to deep center. Quevedo got a pop-up and a ground-out. But Jordan Patterson doubled in Valaika to tie it.

In the bottom of the 13th, Valaika tried to score from second base on a single to right. Tavarez easily threw him out.

In the 14th inning Tejeda showed off a sidearm form. He got into a bases-loaded jam after yielding a double between two hit-batters. But, with two outs, Tejeda struck out Valaika.

Tejeda gave up a single in the 15th and then, with one out, allowed the blast by Patterson.

The Sea Dogs move on the Manchester, New Hampshire, for a four-game series with the Fisher Cats. They return to Hadlock Field Friday.
