Windham High senior running back Dylan Koza suffered a broken leg in the Eagles’ opening game last week and will be sidelined for the rest of the season, Coach Matt Perkins said Wednesday.

Koza was injured in the first quarter while scoring a touchdown at Lewiston, suffering a broken tibia, Perkins said.

“He spun around after scoring. It didn’t look like anything crazy,” Perkins said. “He’s having surgery Thursday and is done for the season.”

Koza, a co-captain for the Eagles, rushed for 928 yards and scored 12 touchdowns as a junior.

The Eagles, who played for the Class A state title last fall, beat Lewiston, 57-8. Koza watched practice from the sidelines Tuesday.

“Dylan is such a high character individual. He’s done so much for this program, not just as a player but as a person. He’s so well liked and respected by his teammates and coaches,” Perkins said.

Although Windham has depth at running back, Perkins called Koza “a different type of back.” The Eagles will host Bangor on Friday night.
