The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association announced Thursday that it has received a $250,000 grant from the Maine-based Quimby Family Foundation.
“Most of the funds will go to the organization’s educational programs endowment,” said executive director Ted Quaday. “This is an extraordinary gift from an extraordinary family with deep roots in Maine. We are humbled and grateful for the Quimby family’s generosity.”
Quaday said the organization’s endowment fundraising campaign has reached $640,000. If it can raise $1 million, the New York-based Partridge Foundation will provide a $1 million match.
The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association provides educational resources, events and training for people interested in learning about organic farming and gardening.
Each September, it presents the Common Ground Fair. This year’s fair will run from Sept. 25-27.
