Alcohol appears to have been a factor in a fatal all-terrain vehicle crash Friday evening in the town of Sidney.

Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said in a news release that the victim, Haley Cummings, 18, of Sidney, was a passenger on a Polaris 850 ATV driven by Alexander Biddle, 21, of Pittston.

Investigators determined the ATV traveled off the side of a gravel driveway and went into a ditch at a fast speed. The crash took place in the area of 144 Shepard Road.

The ATV struck several trees. Cummings was thrown off the vehicle and the ATV rolled on top of Biddle. Cummings was pronounced dead at the scene. Biddle was taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Biddle has not been charged, but the accident remains under investigation.
