Old cellphones, cartridges collected for scholarship

The Buxton Garden Club is collecting used printer ink cartridges and cellphones (broken or working) to fund a scholarship for a Bonny Eagle High School senior.

Collection boxes have been set up at the Buxton Recycling Center, Buxton Town Hall, West Buxton Library and the Bar Mills Post Office and in Hollis at the Salmon Falls Library, Town Hall and Hollis Center Library.

High school senior to attend National 4-H Congress

Cassidy Landry, a Gorham High School senior, has been selected as one of three delegates to represent Maine at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta in November.

National 4-H Congress is the flagship event of the 4-H program.

Landry has been an active 4-H member for eight years. She works as a camp counselor for the Gorham Recreation Department, has served more than 150 hours of community service over the past three years, and is a member of Gorham High’s varsity volleyball and swim teams.

Craftspeople can reserve tables for upcoming fair

The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 62, is accepting reservations for table rentals for crafters who wish to be part of its Christmas Fair, set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the hall on Dunn Street.

Vietnam Veterans chapter moves its meeting venue

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 1044, based in Sanford, will relocate its meeting venue to the American Legion Post 26 at 508 Elm St., Route 1, Biddeford, effective Oct. 4.

Meetings will be held at 1:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month.

Vietnam Veterans of America, founded in 1978, is the only national veterans’ organization congressionally chartered and dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families.

Church buys school supplies for local homeless students

St. Augustine Anglican Church recently put together 75 backpacks filled with school supplies and other essentials to be distributed to homeless students enrolled in public schools in Old Orchard Beach, Saco and Biddeford.

Purchase of the school supplies was funded through bottle drives and yard sales held by the church’s Outreach Committee and the packs were distributed by the church’s junior members. For more details, call 229-8700.
