Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine is sponsoring a free workshop for on proper chainsaw use, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2 at Everwood Tree Farm, North Waterboro. Attendees will learn the basics of chainsaw use with Peter Hasler, a licensed forester who has cut wood for 39 years. People should bring their own chainsaw, if in good working condition, and safety gear. Directions: From Route 5 in North Waterboro, turn onto Clarks Bridge Road. Take first paved left onto Middle Road. Go a few miles to log cabin at top of a hill. Take first dirt road on right, called Old Middle Road. Go 3/4 miles to the first house on the left, and follow signs for Everwood Tree Farm and SWOAM. There will be coffee and doughnuts.
