Dexter police are trying to identify a man they say stole a 5-year-old’s tablet from where it lay on top of a Bible.

About 7 p.m. Thursday, a man arrived at A.E. Robinson’s, a convenience store and eatery on Church Street. He was one of three people who were traveling on ATVs, one red and one green.

Police say the man entered the store and swiped the tablet off the table where a man and his son were getting a bite to eat. The tablet, a hand-held computer with a touch screen, was on top of a Bible. The man did not take the Bible, said Officer Gary Morin.

The man also stole several other items before buying some tobacco products and leaving, police said.

The group left the store headed north toward Dover-Foxcroft, police said.

Police issued a picture taken from security video in hope of identifying the culprit and posted it on their Facebook page.

“We’re not sure he’s local. We didn’t recognize him right off the bat,” Morin said. “We realize the picture is blurry but it’s the best we could get.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 924-7622.
