The Riots’ Kervens Antoine added four goals in South Portland’s prelim versus visiting Kennebunk on Saturday night, Oct. 24, propelling his squad to an 8-1 victory.

“We came out right from the beginning, controlling possession,” said South Portland head coach Bryan Hoy. “We did a nice job, created some opportunities.”

“Kennebunk did a really nice job of coming back,” Hoy said of the early action. “We actually went up 3-0 and then they got one and made it a ball game. So at half time, we were only up two, which is not the best place to be, because you’re feeling like the game’s over, but it’s not.”

“We were a little concerned that if Kennebunk got the first one in the second half,” Hoy said, “they’d be right back in. I challenged my guys to get the first one, and obviously they did, and really took control of the game, put it away, didn’t give them much hope in the second half.”

In addition to Antoine’s hat-trick-and-then-some, Ahmed Suja notched a pair for the Riots; Khalid Suja and Liam Coyne added one apiece. Spencer Thibodeau posted the Rams’ lone point.

“Ahmed and Kervens up top were very good,” said Hoy. “They were playing off each other. A couple times I actually got mad at them for not shooting earlier.”

“Defensively,” Hoy said, “Alecks Kaurin came in off the bench and did a great job marking Spencer Thibodeau, who’s an excellent player.”
