I intend to support the re-election of Mayor Michael Brennan as the best candidate to represent and continue to lead Portland on its clear path toward both steady and humane governance in an otherwise troubling time of grandstanding and power-grabbing both at home and abroad.
He has overseen the transformation of our city through “thin and thin,” even when budgets are coming apart at the seams and competing interests have led to troubling referendums instead of clear-headed compromise.
Having arrived in Portland for a one-semester appointment at a college on its nervous way to becoming a major university, I have stayed the course, as has our current mayor, in helping to build an outstanding urban setting for life and learning.
