I am the owner of Advantage Home Care in Portland, an agency that provides in-home care to seniors who need help to remain safely at home as they age.

While I support the new $10.10 minimum wage passed by the City Council, I oppose the $15 minimum wage on the Portland ballot because of its negative impact on my employees.

I am adding health insurance for my employees, and I know that my business cannot support those costs and a $15 minimum wage. My staff would lose their health insurance benefit if Question 1 passes, and I would lose some very capable employees.

In addition, I would have to raise my rates for the care of my elderly clients, many of whom are on fixed incomes. Some would be forced to reduce the amount of care they receive at a time when their care needs are increasing.

Please vote “no” on Question 1.
