Two trick-or-treaters in Oxford were sent to the hospital Saturday night after one of them was hit by a car.

Oxford police Lt. Mike Ward said a group of four trick-or-treaters were crossing Pottle Road when one of them, a 15-year-old boy, was hit by a car. The boy was pushed into another member of the group, a 14-year-old girl, Ward said.

The other two, a 15-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy, were not injured.

The two who were sent to the hospital were alert and conscious at the scene, Ward said. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, he said.

Ward said two drivers were approaching each other on the road, and he believes their headlights may have blinded them to the presence of the children.

One driver stopped but the other, Lee Richardson, 88, of Oxford, continued on and struck the children, Ward said. Neither speed nor alcohol was considered to be a factor, he said.

Richardson was not hurt and has not been charged in the incident, Ward said, although police are continuing to investigate.
