A man carrying his 2-year-old daughter was hit Tuesday morning when a 1997 Honda sedan headed west on Cumberland Avenue drove onto the sidewalk.

Antonio Byars and his daughter, Jea’leuni, were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with bruises and pain, but the injuries did not appear serious, police said.

The driver, Ared Choukri, 32, was not injured. She was not charged and Portland police continue to investigate why she went off the road.

Byars was walking in front of the Boys and Girls Club, which is across from Portland High School, at about 9:30 a.m. when he was struck.
