Nicole Sevey scored an unassisted goal 2:45 into overtime as Maine edged California 2-1 in an America East field hockey quarterfinal Friday at Albany, New York.

The game was scoreless at halftime despite Maine having a 14-0 advantage in shots while also receiving 10 penalty corners. California (9-10) broke the tie 30 seconds into the second half on a goal by Janaye Sakkas.

The Black Bears got the equalizer with 2:48 left in regulation when Sydney Veljacic scored off assists from Libby Riedl and Sevey.

Maine (18-3), the second seed in the East Division, will play Stanford, the top seed in the West, in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday

MEN’S HOCKEY

UNE 11, ST. MICHAEL’S 0: Armand Uomoleale and Ben Pearl each scored two goals as the Nor’easters (1-0-1, 1-0 NEHC) cruised to a win over the Purple Knights (0-1, 0-1) at Biddeford.

Brady Fleurent had three assists, and Jimmy Tich and Dylan Bengston collected a goal and an assist apiece for UNE, which scored five goals in the first and third periods.

NORWICH 5, USM 2: Kevin Salvucci scored twice for the Cadets (2-0, 1-0 NEHC) as they scored four goals in the final seven minutes to rally past the Huskies (1-2, 0-1) at Gorham.

USM led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Alex Pantalone and Todd Bannerman.

Kyle Shapiro finished with 30 saves for the Huskies, who were outshot 35-18.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

NORTHEASTERN 3, MAINE 1: Ainsley MacMillan scored the winner as the Huskies (8-1-1, 4-0 Hockey East) pulled away from the Black Bears (5-6, 3-4) at Orono.

After falling behind early, Maine tied it 6:47 into the opening period when Brooke Stacey scored off assists from Cassidy Herman and Abbey Cook.

MacMillan scored the go-ahead goal with 7:18 left in the second period and assisted on a late insurance goal.

NORWICH 3, UNE 0: Bryn Labbe, Sarah Schwenzfeier and Madison Gallagher scored to lead the Cadets (1-2, 1-0 NEHC) past the Nor’easters (0-1, 0-1) at Biddeford.

CASTLETON STATE 4, USM 1: Hannah Rose scored twice as the Spartans (3-0, 1-0 NEHC) downed the Huskies (0-1, 0-1) at Gorham.

USM got a goal from Olivia Barragree in the second period.
