CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Thatcher Demko made 30 saves to record his sixth shutout in seven starts, and Boston College beat the University of Maine 2-0 in a Hockey East game Sunday at Conte Forum.

Maine falls to 0-6-3 overall and 0-2 in Hockey East, while Boston College improves to 8-1 overall, 3-0 in the conference.

Ryan Fitzgerald opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game after Colin White won a battle behind Maine’s net and chipped the puck off the wall to Matthew Gaudreau on the far goal line extended.

Gaudreau backhanded a pass off the boards to Fitzgerald behind the net. Fitzgerald skated to the right slot and wristed a shot past screened Maine goalie Rob McGovern.

The Eagles extended the lead to 2-0 on a power-play goal with six minutes remaining in the game. Austin Cangelosi sent a puck from the near boards over to White in the slot for a shot that was stopped by McGovern. The puck caromed into the goalmouth, where Miles Wood poked it in.

McGovern finished with 32 saves.
