The York County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the truck that hit a pedestrian as he was retrieving his dog Monday in Waterboro.

Bruce Weagle, 69, of Waterboro went searching for his golden retriever “Tobie” who had run away. He found the dog at 5:22 p.m. on the 900 block of West Road, a hilly area with few lights, the sheriff’s office said.

As Weagle was returning to his vehicle, he saw a pickup driving north towards him. Because he was wearing dark clothing, he waved his arms so the driver would see him, but it did not change course, the sheriff’s office said.

The truck’s passenger side mirror hit Weagle’s hand, leaving it bruised and temporarily numb, the sheriff’s office said. The plastic mirror broke off but the truck continued. Weagle was treated at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford.

The sheriff’s office is trying to locate the truck, a full-size, red pickup, and asks anyone with information to contact TCBelleard@co.york.me.us or 324-1113.
